Preacher of the Word of God
Sunday morning finds us in the church where we belong,
we greet our friends and find a seat as the choir sings a song.
When the music fades you bow your head and open us in prayer,
and as the Holy Spirit fills us were so thankful that you’re there.
You help us understand the words that were written long ago,
and prepare the banquet table where we feel His mercy flow.

Preacher of the word of God, you teach us of the Rock where we can stand.
Teacher of the holy truth, you feed our hungry souls in a barren land.
For helping us to find our way, for all the things we can’t repay,
Preacher, we thank you today.
When we are born you’re there to seal God’s claim upon our soul,
in our early years you plant the seeds and give them love to grow.
As young adults, you help confirm our lives in Christ above,
then you bless the cord of three strands when we find the one we love.
You pour the living water when we have children of our own,
and when our time on earth is done you help our loved ones walk us home.

Sometimes it must be lonely when we forget you’re human too.
That you have your share of trouble and there are things you wish you knew.
So we’ll keep you in our prayers dear friend, it’s the least that we can do,
for a preacher of the word of God.
